Shaliza Shorey, Psy.D.


Dr. Shorey is a neuropsychologist who specializes in working with adolescents and adults with attention / concentration problems, learning difficulties, memory problems, traumatic brain injuries, and other cognitive difficulties.

She obtained her doctorate in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, and completed her post doctorate fellowship in Neuropsychology from UC Davis Medical Hospital. Prior to joining the Counseling and Psychotherapy Center, she worked as a neuropsychologist and clinical director of the pain management program at Kaiser Permanente. She is an active member of the Northern California Neuropsychology Forum, National Academy of Neuropsychology, and Northern California Association of Pain Psychologists.

She has taught numerous classes and conducted groups on better managing chronic pain and coping with chronic illnesses. Dr. Shorey believes in a multi-disciplinary approach to treatment and has developed a network of physicians, movement providers (such as yoga and Qigong practitioners), nutritionist, and acupuncturists in order to provide holistic treatment for her clients.

Services provided include:

Neuropsychological assessment: A neuropsychological evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of
cognitive and behavioral functions using a set of standardized tests and procedures. Various mental
functions are systematically tested. Results of assessment are used to provide: diagnostic clarification,
relative cognitive strengths and weaknesses, and recommendations for treatment.

EMDR: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an information processing therapy and
uses an eight phase approach to treat a wide range of pathologies. It attends to the past experiences of
an individual that have set the groundwork for pathology, the current situations that trigger dysfunctional
emotions, beliefs and sensations, and the positive experience needed to enhance future adaptive
behaviors and mental health.

Chronic Pain Management: Individualized program designed to help clients learn tools and strategies
including biofeedback and cognitive-behavioral therapy for increasing their functioning and better
managing their chronic condition.
